EduSport is Zambia’s most prominent sports & community development NGO that uses Sport for Development approach.

Since its inception in 1999, EduSport has made a substantial impact in using sport to achieve local community development goals.

Starting as a small project under the National Sports Council of Zambia in 1996, it got registered as an NGO in 1999 and has now spread to Eight(8) provinces of Zambia.

Methodology/Approach

EduSport (Education through Sport) Foundation believes that solutions to problems that are faced by people have to be found with the involvement of those that face them. It’s also believed that leadership is critical in fighting challenges that face communities. It’s believed that young people learn much, well and freely from friends. It’s these points that led EduSport to design a programme called Peer leadership. This is an extension of peer education into the field of sport. Children and Youths are trained as leaders at a tender age.

All EduSport programmes are based on the ‘peer leader’ approach building a sustainable network of young role models who lead and inspire the next generation of youth leaders. Peer leaders are trained in peer education facilitation, gender assertiveness, girls’ rights and health & reproductive issues, event organisation, sports & Kicking AIDS Out (KAO) peer leader skills   through workshops & leadership camps. In addition, peer leaders are trained in income-generating activities, fundraising and entrepreneurial skills through sustainability workshops. Peer leaders will also be offered educational scholarships, opportunities to access Higher Education courses and leadership internships to enable them to remain in or return to education and to retain them with the project. Peer leaders form Action Teams, self-managed organizing committees where they exercise leadership and become in charge of their programmes and activities.
